Hey there, I just signed up for GW Guru after returning to Guild Wars (it's been like two years since I've last played.) Upon installing the game I've realized that after logging in, the game causes my computer to BSOD and then reboot. I've updated my video driver to the latest driver as well as my sound card. I've tried reformatting twice now to see if it will resolve this issue and still nothing. Additionally, I am capable of playing other equally demanding games without having this issue occur. Can anyone suggest anything?

Windows XP Home Edition (SP3)
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+ 2.20GHz
2.00 GB of RAM
ATI All-In-Wonder 9800

have you tried googling the error code the BSOD gives you? seems like a good place to start troubleshooting

It'll usually give you some sort of code or file relating to the BSoD. Let us know and we might be able to help.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get a code off of the BSOD, I've disabled the "automatic restart" option so that I am able to view. The game does not always blue screen. Sometimes the game simply turns my display off (right now I'm using my 42" LG LCD TV (With wireless keyboard/mouse) I'll update if I can.

I don't know if this helps out at all, but this is the error signature I received after a crash.

I viewed the minidump file and it shows that hal.dll and ntoskrnl.exe are causing my problems. These were the files before that caused my problem as well (I reformatted recently to try and get rid of the issue)

Try starting GW with a number of switches to turn things off and see if it makes a difference, edit your shortcut (properties) and add this after the main program line

-dx8 -dsound -noshaders -diag

Still no such luck. I tried adding all of those extensions and it still caused the same issue. Diagnostics executed just fine

I have a feeling the issue is with this hal.dll (hal.dll+58db). The issue only seems to occur when it is trying to draw objects (for example, if a character is on the screen, or in game.) The game will sit and run all day if it is at a loading screen or the login screen. However, if I get to the character selection screen that's when it conks out. The odd time I'll make it into the game past the loading screen, in which it still freezes or BSOD's.

Edit: Additionally, I have a "driver" that keeps showing up as unknown (it has done this the past two times that I have reformatted as well.) It says that the driver is located on the "Radeon 9800 Pro" My video card (All-in-wonder 9800) is an on-board vid card. It also shows under my display adapters Radeon 9800 Pro, Radeon 9800 Pro (Secondary) Is this because the card is a capture card?

Finally! Success! The reason why I was using this older desktop was because my laptop recently crashed and I am trying to afford a new tower. The cause of the crashing was due to a backup internal hard drive that my dad used. (I'm assuming) It was draining on the power supply which was making the mobo/vid card act up. As soon as I removed the internal hard drive Guild Wars runs like a charm. Thanks for all of your help, and if anyone is experiencing similar problems, don't forget to check for uninstalled hard drives.
